In bins and septic tanks across the shire, you’ll find Poon Bombs bringing a citrusy scent to the dirty business of rubbish, waste and cleaning.

Taryn Simmons is behind the unique solid cleaning product created to conquer the stink of the family’s biocycle, environmentally friendly, septic tank in their new home.

“We were in a new house and trying everything to take the smell away from our tank and none of the products were working. I started looking for septic-safe products we could create to clean with,” Ms Simmons says.

Creating a product that was free from harsh chemicals and safe for family and pets was a must and so it was decided food grade ingredients were essential. And of course the solid cleaning product had to smell great.

The former Gladstone local got the whole family to take part in researching; sniffing scents and recording feedback on size, shape and drying times. From all that research and testing, the Poon Bomb was born.

“We started making and using the bombs clean around the house, and my husband and I thought, this is something. The product is safe, so the kids can help make them and then use them to contribute to keeping the house clean. We thought this is an amazing product that we’ve got here. It’s outside of the box, simple, yet effective,” a passionate Taryn Simmons recounts.

“At first the Poon Bombs were cleaning septic tanks and sinks.  But it wasn’t long before our customers were using them for new uses like cleaning ovens, air-fryers, fridges, septic tanks and caravan and RV cassettes,” Ms Simmons says.

Not only were these cleaning gems eliminating mess, but the Poon Bombs were also eliminating odours in bins and fridges around the Livingstone Shire. It was exciting times for the Simmons family.

Sales have been strong for these small but mighty solid, semicircular, bicarbonate soda-based cleaning products made with 100% essential oils.  Not only on the Capricorn Coast but as far south as New South Wales thanks to the website, and online shop logo that she designed and got up and running herself.

Taryn Simmons’ Poon Bombs have so many uses they’re becoming a staple in cleaning cupboards everywhere.

“People are putting Poon Bombs in the bottom of their kitchen bins, for a fresh smell that lasts for 2-3 weeks.  When the smell of the essential oils fades away, the bomb keeps working because the bicarb soda absorbs odours,” Taryn says.

The Yeppoon community love the free home delivery and seeing the Simmons girls and their mum or dad at their door to drop off the environmentally friendly products.

“People have said we’ve created something unique, that they’ve not seen anything like it before, the response and support have been amazing, and it’s so great that we’ve created something our whole family can spend time doing,” Taryn Simmons says.

“Stir and Stitch are our local stockist and our bombs that start at around $16 a packet.  You’ll find them at the front counter.  They’ve been an amazing business partner and there are strong sales through our website www.thepoonbombs.com.au.

What does the future hold for this unique product?

“Our hope is that our business grows from strength to strength and so does our relationships with our customers. We want the Poon Bombs to make cleaning easier, safer and more fragrant for housholds everywhere!
