14 things to do this school holidays

School holiday stuff to keep the kids happy.

Summer school holidays are in full swing on the Capricorn Coast.  Here at Capcoast Living, we love not having to march to the beat of a timetable, but we don’t like the kids climbing the walls.  So we’ve put together a list of some of the organised activities for the kids this school holidays.

  1. Making magic – Saturday 5 January 10.30.  Do you remember Boris the Blacknight and Wombat? Eric Summons, ‘King of the kids is coming to The Spinnaker for one show only Magic Show and magic lessons. After the show, you can watch the Frog in the pond morning tea magically disappear!   2. Deadly 60 stage show – Tuesday 8 January at 3 pm. Gladstone Entertainment Centre.  We don’t know about your kids but ours stick glued to Steve Marshall’s Deadly 60 and he’s in Gladstone next week!  Book quickly the 12noon show is already sold out.  Tickets $50.  Book here.
  3. Fit kids – Tuesday 8,15, 22 2-5pm.  Yeppoon Gymnastics & Movement Centre is entertaining with gymnastics, games, group activities, fitness, friendship and fun for $25 per session per child.  Contact them on FB messenger.
  4. Drama Days – Wednesday 9, 23 10.30-3.30pm.  Drama days for building self-confidence and having a great time $40 per child. Enquiries 4939 2399.
  5. Climbing walls – January every Wednesday and Friday 2-5pm Capricorn Caves will have kids hanging from one of 15 different climbs on 3 different faces. Closed in shoes essential. Tickets are $15 book by phone 4934 2883. Book here.
  6. Little Aussie encounters – January every Thursday at 2 pm. Keen kids close encounters with scaly, slimy, furry, feathery from Little Aussie Encounters at Capricorn Caves.  Tickets are $10.  Book here.
  7. Bats, bones, poo, spew – Every Monday and Wednesday to 23 January 2 pm (2 hours). If the title doesn’t get the kids nothing will! Fossicking for fossils and getting hands-on with reptile history while carers take a break with a coffee at Capricorn Caves.  Tickets $15.  Book here.
  8. Swimming intensives – W/C 14 and 21 January. Get the kids kicking in the pool for four half-hour swim lessons at the Yeppoon Aquatic Centre Cooee Bay.  Bookings 4939 5029.
  9. Kids Learn to Sail – 15-18 Jan 9am-2pm.  Have the kids sail on out to Causeway Lake for four days of learning to sail.  Morning tea and lunch provided as well as a Graduation BBQ.  $150 per child 6-12 years. Enquiries Keppel Bay Sailing Club phone 4939 9542.
  10. Skateboard lessons – Wednesday  23 January Emu Park 1-5pm. Australian Skateboarding and Livingstone Shire Council and partners are showing skate board skills to keen kids on the holidays as well as The Caves – February 16 1-5pm, Yeppoon March 16 1-5pm. FREE. Register here.
  11. Summer reading club –  Livingstone Library is asking kids to discover new worlds this summer as part of the Summer Reading Club.  Visit the library for more information. Wrap up party on Friday 25 January. FREE.
  12. Movie at the Park – Wednesday 23 January.  Outdoor cinema at Bell Park, Emu Park.  Show Dogs starts at 7pm and snacks will be on sale.  Bring a blanket or chair.  FREE. Enquiries 4913 3840.
  13. Tennis Clinic – Monday January 21-25 2.30-5.30pm. Join Beak’s Tennis and Cooee Bay for techniques and tactics, lots of fun and prizes!  Do one day or the whole week.  $35 a day or $30 a day for five days. Enquiries 0419 026 963.
  14. Crossfit for kids – Tuesdays and Thursdays 5-10 yrs 3-3.30 pm ($120) and 3.30pm – 4.15 pm for 11-14 yrs ($150).  Get the kids moving with a mix of games and skills to build their health and wellbeing with a dose of great fun. Enquiries here.
